a warm and minimalist chair for the home

PROJECT OVERVIEW
An exercise in fabrication techniques and combining art and design, Stromma is designed to accentuate the home environment.
For the project our profesors wanted us to hone in on and develop our aesthetic voice as designers, and furthermore, emphasize our model-making and craft skills.

Concept development

ideation
I began ideating designs which could fit into any home environment. Though the designs had to be distinct, they couldn’t be overtly complex, thus I decided to limit myself to five parts in the assembly of the entire chair.
refined concept
The final concept I arrived at embodied the Scandinavian sereness I intended for my final design. Made up of only three pieces, minimalism was taken seriously through every step of the process.

The new process

FINAL MODEL

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY & INTENT
Warmth and minimalism; these two principles guided me to create a piece that was inviting to look at yet didn’t try too hard to grab attention.
